Nelly a famous celebrity born on November 2, 1974. His fully name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. but become known as Nelly. World knows him as an American rapper, a great singer, a songwriter and also as an entrepreneur and an investor. Nelly started his career in year 2000 when he launched his album “Country Grammar” which was a hit. “Country Grammar” went Nelly’s best-selling album with the record of more than 8.4 million copies sold just in United States. Other hit albums include “Nellyville”, “Sweatsuit”, “M.O”, “Who’s the Boss”, “My Place” and a lot more. Nelly also worked as an actor into the film and television industry and has appeared on CSI: NY and in the film The Longest Yard.
So that was about a celebrity. But when we look on his personal life there is quite a tragedy. Nelly is a broken family child. His parents separated because of some financial problems which made Nelly so dishearten that he left his family and settled in suburban area of university city where he build his new interests like storytelling and rhymes writing. He recomposed his life and became his school baseball star. He also started his first musical group St. Lunatics with some of his school friends. St. Lunatics got some success in 1996 with their hit “Gimme What You Got,” and then they decided to let nelly perform as a solo performer. The same year his famous album Country Grammar came out which was a huge success. He got so many important awards in his career like “Best New Artist” in 2001, “Favorite Hip-hop Artist” in 2002 including Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Male Hot 100 Artist of the Year, and Male R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.
The rapper Nelly has got a great heart. He is a daring personality who believes in the proverb “actions speaks more than words”. He is a great supporter of education in the black community. In the wake of the Mike Brown Shooting and Ferguson, protest in 2014, the black celebrities were invited to speak against the injustices in their own people. Many celebrities speak out the protest and injustice to support black community but Nelly remained silent and decided to let his actions speak do the talking. He personally visited Ferguson and created a scholarship fund in Michael Brown’s name for the support of education. Besides that he sent two students to collage on scholarship every year for the past 10 years.
In his interview with Hello Beautiful Nelly spoke about his concern about the black community in which he has declared education as the most important factor for the betterment of youth. “I try to do it through education because that’s the only way we’re going to get it. The only way we’re going to get this is to elevate,” Nelly explained in the interview. Famous quotation of Nelly in which he emphasizes on the important of education, “We have to get the kids to go out of these communities. Graduate. Get the knowledge. Come back to the community, and then they can run it because they understand the people and understand the severity of the situation.”
Men like Nelly are the real role models for our society who are not only concerned about the problems facing African Americans but also take strenuous actions to help people in general.
